Destiny 2 Seasonal Artifact Mods: What You Need to Know

With the newest season of Destiny 2, the Season of Arrivals, comes a new seasonal artifact with a lot of fun and powerful mods to enhance your Guardian’s abilities. If you need more information about Artifacts, check out my other article Welcome Back to the Light where I discuss Artifacts and more.

While these mods may not hang around beyond the end of the current season and transition into the Beyond Light expansion in November (although I am hopeful similar mods will be available in the next seasonal artifact), here is a breakdown of the artifact and the benefits of some of the best mods in the game right now!

Seasonal Artifact: The Seed of Silver Wings

In the Season of Arrivals, the newest artifact (and one of the coolest looking in my opinion) is the Seed of Silver Wings, helping you to battle the darkness. Within this artifact are several mods that are helpful across all Guardian classes, and are beneficial for nearly all activities. Below is a summary of each column of mods, and details on the activities for which they can be helpful:

Column One: Anti-Barrier Rounds, Overload Rounds, and Unstoppable Rounds

  • Anti-Barrier, Overload, and Unstoppable rounds can be applied to the weapon classes seen in the mods (Assault Rifles, SMGs, Hand Cannons, Sidearms, Bows, and Pulse Rifles)
  • The most common uses for these mods in the current season are:
    • Contact Public Event on Io or Titan
    • Nightfall: The Ordeal Strikes
    • Nightfall Strikes
  • Anti-Barrier mods are also effective against any shielded enemy, some examples include Hive Knights and Taken Vandal bubbles

Column Two: Enhanced Loader, Targeting, and Scavenging Mods

Mods highlighted below are selected in the artifact screenshot above, taken from my Guardian’s loadout

  • Enhanced Pulse Rifle Loader: Greatly increases reload speed of pulse rifles
  • Enhanced Unflinching Rifle Aim: Greatly reduces flinching from incoming fire while aiming any rifle-class weapon
  • Enhanced Scatter Projectile Targeting: Greatly improved target acquisition, accuracy, and aim-down-sight speed for auto rifles, machine guns, SMGs, pulse rifles, sidearms, and fusion rifles
  • Enhanced Sword Scavenger: Swords get larger bonus reserves when you pick up ammo
  • Enhanced Bow Loader: Greatly increases the knocking speed of arrows

Column Three: Glimmer Drop Rate Mods

These mods provide additional glimmer for defeating combatants with specific weapons, abilities, or defeating Taken combatants. As you can see from the screenshot above, I have skipped this column entirely. Given the amount of glimmer generated from activities across the Destiny universe, I tend to skip these in favor of mods in the fourth and fifth columns, however if you are looking for extra glimmer based on weapons you may be using most frequently, I would suggest the Flourishing Blade or Dimensional Tithes mods.

Column Four: Champion Combatant Enhancement Mods

Here is where we get into the good stuff! The mods in this column and the fifth column are some of the most beneficial mods coming from the artifact this season. Depending upon your playstyle, you may choose different mods than what I have in the screenshot above, here are the juicy details on each of them:

Mods highlighted below are selected in the artifact screenshot above, taken from my Guardian’s loadout

  • Counter Charge: Become charged with light whenever you or a member of your fireteam staggers or disrupts a Champion or pierces a Champion’s barrier.
    • Why this is beneficial: for a lot of end-game content, you will often have to utilize Anti-Barrier, Unstoppable, or Overload rounds against Champion enemies. Becoming charged with light enhances the damage you inflict on those enemies, benefitting not just you, but your entire fireteam.
  • Unstoppable Pulse Rifle: Aiming down pulse rifle sights loads a high-impact burst that staggers unshielded combatants. Strong against Unstoppable Champions
    • Why this is beneficial: While there is an Unstoppable Burst mod for pulse rifles in the first column, this mod is limited to non-exotic pulse rifles. The Unstoppable Pulse rifle mod is not only more powerful, but can be loaded onto any pulse rifle including exotic pulse rifles.
  • Overload Grenades: Void grenades cause disruption, delaying ability energy regeneration and lowering combatant damage output. Strong against Overload Champions.
    • Why is this beneficial: This mod, when utilizing a Void subclass, provides a huge damage advantage not only in PvE activities, but PvP activities. By delaying ability energy regeneration against opposing Guardians in Crucible or Gambit, these combatants will regenerate melee or grenade energy at a slower rate, allowing you to deal a final blow at a more expedient rate. This mod also goes hand-in-hand with Oppressive Darkness in the fifth column
  • Breach Resonator: Grants melee and grenade energy on final blows with shield-piercing weapons or when a member of your fireteam shuts down a Barrier Champion’s ability.
    • Why this is beneficial: With a strong melee or grenade build, when utilizing anti-barrier rounds against Champion combatants, these abilities will recharge faster, allowing you to clear large numbers of enemies with grenade or melee attacks.
  • Inferno Whip: Solar melee abilities stagger unshielded combatants. Strong against Unstoppable Champions
    • Why this is beneficial: For a solar melee buff against Unstoppable Champions, this mod can help you punch your way out of tough situations.

Column Five: The Best Mods in the Seasonal Artifact

Here we go, Guardians. These mods are *chef’s kiss* some of the most powerful and most beneficial mods within the artifact this season. If you are not utilizing these, you are missing out on some incredible damage buffs and healing buffs in your day to day gameplay:

Mods highlighted below are selected in the artifact screenshot above, taken from my Guardian’s loadout

  • Oppressive Darkness: Causing damage with a void grenade adds a weakening effect to combatants.

    • Why this is beneficial: When utilizing Oppressive Darkness, your grenade generates critical hit damage immediately, in addition to weakening opposing combatants. This grenade mod, especially when paired with Overload Grenades from the fourth column, takes a large chunk of damage out of boss-level combatants and is critical for end-game content such as the new Prophecy Dungeon.
  • Solar Plexus: Increases damage of all solar melee abilities. Gain Super energy from performing finishers with a Solar subclass equipped.

    • Why this is beneficial: Attaching this mod to any solar subclass in which you have strong melee damage enhances that damage and recharges your super. For any fellow Titans out there, pairing this mod with your Sunbreaker Titan and Phoenix Cradle exotic leg armor makes for some fiery melee fun!
  • Heavy Finisher: Finishers generate Heavy ammo. Requires one-half of your Super energy.

    • Why this is beneficial: Heavy ammo may be hard to come by depending upon the activity you are running. If your armor build regenerates your Super energy quickly (determined by your Intellect stat), utilizing this mod to generate heavy ammo for yourself and your fireteam is worth it, even if it depletes one-half of your Super energy in doing so.
  • Volatile Conduction: Grains bonus Arc Super Damage if cast while critically wounded. Lasts until the end of the Super activation.

    • Why this is beneficial: If you find yourself in a tight spot, clinging to an inch of your light, casting your Super can get you back into the fight and through the dangerous enemies. If you run an Arc subclass Super, this mod is definitely for you! That bonus damage will help you knock out all of those pesky enemies and give you a chance to recover your health after you emote in victory!
  • Guardian Angel: Grants a chance to generate healing orbs for you on your Scout Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Bow, and Linear Fusion Rifle precision final blows.

    • Why is this beneficial: While only granting a chance to generate healing orbs, if you are taking out enemies (or opposing guardians) from a distance, this mod will help you potentially heal quickly to get you a few extra shots on your enemies in tough spots.

Closing Thoughts on Mod Slots

A few additional notes regarding the mod slots and how they can benefit your Guardian’s build:

  • The number in the top-right corner of the mod indicates the cost to apply the mod to your armor. Remember to ensure you have enough energy on each armor piece to add your desired mod.

  • In some instances, you may have a mod that will stack on a piece of your armor, and will not only achieve the equivalent effect of another mod, but may end up costing you less energy to add to your armor. As an example below, I have the Enhanced Unflinching Rifle Aim stacked twice on my chest armor in place of Enhanced Unflinching Sniper Aim, as it achieves the same effect and costs 4 fewer energy to add to my build:

  • If you find a mod isn’t working for you or you want to switch it up with the mods in your artifact you can always reset your mod for a specific amount of glimmer. However, every time you reset your artifact, it costs more than the last time you reset it, so make your artifact resets count!
  • The first row of the seasonal artifact only requires three mods to move on to the next column, and then four mods to make the third and fourth columns available.

In Summary, these seasonal artifact mods can enhance your Destiny gameplay in some of the best ways possible. Whether you are a Titan, Warlock, or Hunter, there is a mod for you for almost every situation and every playstyle. Take your time, try the mods, and find what works for you! Eyes up, Guardians and enjoy, I will see you in the field!
